Corporate social
responsibility (CSR) is a task that companies and national
agencies are increasingly adopting as a voluntary commitment to
improve the educational, cultural, economic and social level of
community members through a wide range of services. CSR is not a
mere participation in welfare or voluntary activities. In
addition to abidance by regulations, it includes health and
environmental sectors, human rights and local communities'
development. CSR also emphasizes principles of fair competition,
non-monopoly businesses, consumer protection, transparency,
administrative and financial integrity and ethical conduct. In
fact, the definition of CSR can be as holistic as to include any
effort that would lead to improving the services presented to
communities, creating job opportunities, offering equitable
wages, ensuring occupational safety and identifying solutions
for social and environment problems.
Realizing the
importance of adopting CSR and participating in royal
interventions and seeking to meet the objectives of the
'National Agenda' and 'All Jordan' document, the Commission
included CSR as a main objective in its general strategy.
